Gemma von Gehrde is a beautiful 3-4 year old sable German Shepherd. One look at her endearing face and you know she has a story to tell. She hasn’t always been someone's cherished family member. However, this sweet, gentle soul has put it all behind her. With a lot of love in her heart, she hopes that someone will notice her and offer her a new, better life. Gemma is often sitting out in front at the rescue with some volunteers. You can just feel how she is savoring every moment, pressing up close to the volunteers. She thrives on human connection and even just being able to sit in the sun. She got lost in a huge, overwhelmed animal shelter for months.One of our volunteers was there and happened to see a sweet, forlorn face looking up at her hopefully. She just couldn’t leave her behind. She is always checking in with you on her perfectly behaved leash walks and preferring to stay right by your side. She is loving and kind as she greets both people and other dogs with a calm, friendly demeanor, although she is much more interested in receiving affection from humans than playing with other dogs. Whether she’s exploring the yard as a polite mingler, gently taking treats, or working on her basic commands, Gemma’s happy place is simply being near her person. With her medium energy level and successful cat and small critter tests, she is a soulful companion ready to fill a home with love and loyalty.
